Pension Record S. 31389, Aaron STURGIS of Connecticut:
  Aaron STURGIS of Saratoga County, New York, was a musician in company of Captain Mills, commanded by Col. Webb in the Connecticut line for 3 years, from 1777 to 1780.
Certificate of pension issued 27 August 1832 and sent to Hon. J.W. Taylor, Ballston Spa, N.Y.

Paid from 4 Sep 1838 to 4 Sep 1840;
To Illinois from 4 Sep 1840 to July 1841, notification to Princeton, Illinois;
paid from 4 Sep 1840 to 4 March 1841;
Paid from March 4 to 4 Sept 1841;
Letter to Pension, 2 May 1843, paid as above to 1 of 7 children from 4 Sep to 23 Oct 1842, agent notified 3 Dec 1844;
Paid from 4 Sep, notified 7 Dec 1844.  Dead
  State of New York, Saratoga County:
Aaron STURGIS of Ballston states that on 9 June 1818, a pension certificate was issued to him for rate of $8 per month, that we was denominated a private, instead of a fifer and that he did not make application to have the mistake corrected because it made no difference in the rate of pension.  He was a fifer for three years in company commanded first by John Mills and second by Ten Eyck who was adjutant of the Regiment commanded by Col. Webb in Gen. Huntington's Brigade of the Connecticut line.
He has lived in Ballston for more than 40 years and wishes new certificate under act of June 7, 1832, paid to him at Ballston Spa P.O. Saratoga County, New York

appeared Aaron STURGIS, aged 57 years, resident in Ballston, enlisted in Greenfield, Connecticut, as a fifer in company commanded by Captain John Mills in the second regiment commanded by Col. Charles Webb in the Connecticut line sometime in the month of March or April, 1777 for three years,
he continued to serve until 31 December 1779 when he was discharged in the state of New Jersey, he was in skirmish near the sawpits in New York and in the battle of Monmouth in New Jersey

  Aaron STURGIS died Oct. 23, 1842:
"In 1841, he removed to Ill. to be near a portion of his children taking the remaining children with him.  7 children are mentioned.  Names given of six are Walter M., Deborah, Eli, Sally, Moses and David.  No other data or file as to family."

Six of the seven children of Aaron STURGES deceased a pensioner on the pension roll of Illinois, received $88 per annum from 4 Sep 1842 to 23 Oct 1843

  "Lydia wrote a number of times to her nephew James Sturges, and at least from 1845 to 1862 she lived in Channahan, Will County, Illinois.  On November 6, 1863, she wrote to James and Ellen Sturges from the home of friends in Tiskilwa where she'd been staying the past year."
p. 85:
  "In 1862, Lydia (a principal link in the Sturges correspondence chain) complained she'd heard nothing from the folks in Oregon for some time.  Then came a February 1862 letter from Eudora, one of Moses' daughters, again referring to Orvill who was very ill and was identified as David's son."
