John PADGETT
There were two John Padgetts listed in the 1830 Census of Harrison County, KY: one born 1780-1790 (age 40-50 in 1830), and the other born 1790-1800 (age 30-40 in 1830). This John may be the one who was age 30-40 (1830 Census, Harrison County, KY, page 194). The other John (age 40-50, page 186) was presumably the John Padgett who was born in 1784 (he was living next door to Nicholas White who married John's daughter Frances Padgett). 1830 FEDERAL CENSUS, HARRISON COUNTY, KENTUCKY:
p. 194:
John Padgett household:

1 male age 5-10

Benjamin PADGETT
There is no PROOF of any of Benajmin Padgett's children, but circumstantial evidence suggests that William, John, Mary (wife of Stephen Green), and Elizabeth (wife of John Green) were all his children. It is presumably his widow Mary (Molly) who appeared in the records of Madison County, Kentucky, and then Harrison County, Kentucky.
Benjamin Padgett's name appeared as a head of household in the 1790 Census of Stokes County, North Carolina. The census showed one male over age 16, two males under age 16, and two females. Presumably the two boys were William (born prior to 1784) and John (born 1784).

Mary (Molly)
Benjamin Padgett's wife was apparently named Mary (administrator of his estate in Stokes County, North Carolina, in 1794 prior to appointment of Robert Elrod as administrator).
Many families from the Moravian community in Stokes County were moving to Kentucky at this time. The name Mary Padgett first appeared in the annual tax lists of Madison County, Kentucky, in 1799. Her name was the only Padgett name there, as well as on the 1800, 1801, and 1802 tax lists for Madison County. In the 1804 Madison County Tax List, William Padgett's name also appeared. Presumably William Padgett had just recently turned 21. In 1805, the names of Mary Padgett, William Padgett, and John Padgett all appeared on the Madison County, Kentucky, Tax List. John Padgett had recently turned 21, as his tombstone gives his birthdate as 10 December 1784 (his tombstone, in Salem Cemetery, Harrison County, KY, also says "Born in Stokes County, North Carolina").
Mary Padgett's name appeared on Madison County, Kentucky, tax lists in 1806, 1807, 1808, and 1809. Mary Padgett appeared as a head of household in the 1810 Census of Madison County, Kentucky, in the over-45 age category. Also in the household were one male age 16-26 (presumably John who did not marry until December of 1810) and two females age 16-26 (presumably Mary and Elizabeth, not yet married).
Mary Padgett's name first appeared in Harrison County, Kentucky, in the 1829 tax list. (John Padgett bought land in Harrison County in 1823, and his name first appeared in the Harrison County tax lists in 1824.) In 1831, Mary Padgett bought 250 acres on Beaver Creek in Harrison County, and the 1833 Harrison County tax list listed John Padgett with 250 acres on Beaver Creek.
The 1840 Harrison County, Kentucky, Census, page 158, showed John Padgett in the 50-60 age bracket, with a wife in the 50-60 age bracket, three sons and two daughters, and a woman in the 70-80 age bracket. Presumably this older woman was John's mother Mary. It wasn't John's wife Elizabeth (Green)'s mother, because she (Frances Green) was a head of household in the 1840 Madison County, Kentucky, Census.
