Simeon MOTE
Census records yield conflicting data concerning Simeon Mote's year of birth. In 1850, he was reported to be age 33 (born ca. 1817); in 1860, he was reported to be age 55 (born ca. 1805); in 1870, he was reported to be age 70 (born ca. 1800).
It is not certain that this Simeon Mote is the one who drew land from Morgan County in the 1821 Georgia Land Lottery, but if so, then Simeon must have been born by 1800 in order to draw land in the lottery. A birth ca. 1800 would be consistent with the 1824 year of marriage to Lucy Teal in Jasper County and with the age of 20-30 in the 1830 Talbot County, GA, Census.
It is also not known whether Simeon was born in South Carolina or Georgia. Several (but not all) census records for his children (and 2 of 3 census records for Simeon) indicate a South Carolina birth, which is probably correct.

Rebecca ROBERTS
There is no PROOF that Rebecca Roberts was the daughter of John Roberts and Zilla Williams, but circumstantial evidence suggests that this is so.
Some descendants of Jesse Cornelius Mote claim that Jesse was the son of Simeon Mote and Martha Rebecca Bowles. However, it appears from the census and marriage data that Rebecca's mother Zilla (Williams) Roberts married John F. Bowles, but not until 1850 (long after Rebecca was born). Still, this may be the origin of the family tradition that Jesse's mother Rebecca was a Bowles (as she was a stepdaughter of John F. and Zilla Bowles). The 1839 marriage record for Simeon Mote clearly names his bride as Rebecca Roberts, not Bowles.
