Philip MORGERT
[EDITOR'S NOTE: Unless otherwise indicated, the source for the birth dates, death dates, and marriage dates of the descendants of Philip Morgert came from the extensive research by Frederick Royer of York, Pennsylvania, during the 1980's and earlier.]
While the spelling of Phillip's name appears as both Marckart and Morgert in the following records, his son Peter mostly used the spelling Morgart (as did Peter's descendants in Bedford County, PA) while his son George consistently used the spelling Morgret (as did George's descendants in the part of Bedford County, PA, which became Fulton County in 1850).
It is almost certain that the Morgert/Morgart/Morgret name was German in origin (perhaps Marckert or Marquardt).
