  "Among the pioneers of Russell County were the Days.  John Day, my great, great grandfather, was born June 15, 1775, in Edgefield, South Carolina and died March 17, 1854 in Russell County, Alabma.  He made his first land purchase in Russell County November 8, 1841.  Martin H. Day, son of John Day, born 1810 in Georgia.  Family moved to Russell County between 1843 and 1849.  Martin H. Day, who was my great grandfather, undoubtedly was wealthy, as in his will that I hae, he left each of his seven children several slaves and money for education.  He also made Berry Grove Thomas guardian for his son Walker.  Berry Grove Thomas was his son-in-law, marrying his daughter Cordelia Day.
  Lawrence Benjamin Day, my grandfather, was the son of Martin H. Day.  He was born June 26, 1842 in Edgefield, South Carolina.  He came to Russeel County as a boy.  Married Katie Aleria Stratford December 24, 1866.  She was born March 23, 1857 in Russell County and died October 29, 1930.  He died August 1, 1909.  They had nine children, John Martin, Tom, George, Charlie, Arthur, Katie, Mittie, Sallie, and Bettie.  All are deceased.  Bettie died young."
