Descendants of Robert LIVINGSTON (1700's)
Notes

Robert LIVINGSTON
Robert Livingston's will establishes that he was a brother to Aaron/Adam Livingston, as it names three of Aaron's sons as his nephews. However, there is only circumstantial evidence to suggest that Robert and Aaron were brothers to Samuel Livingston (born 1759). Bible records establish that the names of Samuel Livingston's parents were Robert and Mary Livingston (who probably never came to America.)

Aaron (Adam) LIVINGSTON
It is possible that Aaron Livingston was also known as Adam Livingston, because an 1898 letter written by his son Alfred Livingston refers to him as Adam. Also, a biography in the HISTORY OF GREENE COUNTY, GEORGIA, identifies him as Adam Livingston.
However, all of the Greene County, GA, land, tax, and court records refer to him as Aaron Livingston, except for one document dated 13 Sep 1809 (see below), which refers to the estate of Adam Livingston.
It is possible that Alfred Livingston, born in 1803, was no longer remembering his father's name accurately when he wrote the letter at age 95 (in 1898), as he had been only four years old when his father died in 1807.
The children of Adam Livingston, as identified in the letter, and the children of Aaron Livingston, as identified in the Greene County, Georgia, probate records, are the same, as are the date (1807) and circumstances of his death (on road from Georgia to Kentucky), so letter and documents all clearly refer to the same man.
There is no direct proof that Aaron/Adam's parents were Robert and Mary Livingston. Bible records prove that Robert and Mary Livingston were the names of the parents of Samuel Livingston (born 1759). However, there is only circumstantial evidence to suggest that Samuel and Aaron/Adam were brothers (Samuel was appointed in Aaron's will to attend to the welfare of Aaron's youngest children). There is no indication that Robert and Mary Livingston ever came to the United States (Samuel's will refers to his sisters still living in Ireland).
GEORGIA GENEALOGICAL MAGAZINE, no. 14 (October 1964), p. 887:
"GGM has been furnished with a copy of an old letter written by a 95-year old man in 1898 giving information to his niece about his father's and grandfather's families. The letter was written by Hon. Alfred Livingston of Newton Co. Ga. He was the father of Hon. Leonidas F. Livingston who served twenty years in Congress. The elder Livingston lived three years after this letter was written. The letter:
**
Kings, Ga., March 6, 1898.
Mrs. Laura Frazer,
Union Springs, Ala.
My dear Niece:
I received your letter from my son, L. F. Livingston the other day, enclosing one from you to him, wanting to know the history of our family. L.F. sent your letter to me to answer.
My father, Adam Livingston, came to this country from the north of Ireland with a wife and one child before the Revolutionary War. He went into the war shortly after he came to this country, the second year, I believe; he went from Virginia. He was at the battle of Kings Mountain. As soon as peace was declared he and his brother moved to Greene County, Ga. His wife was killed by the Indians seven miles east of Greensboro. The Oconee River was the dividing line between the whites and the Indians at the time. He had five children by his first wife: Robert, Elizabeth, William, John and Adam. Robert settled in Kentucky at the first settling of that state; Elizabeth settled in Carolina, Adam in Alabama, John in Ga.
After the death of my father's wife he married my mother; she had six children: Thomas, Sarah, Mary, Aaron, Jasper and Alfred. After the death of my mother my father started to move to Kentucky but died on the road in Tennessee. Your father was with his father when he died. William came from Charleston S.C.,
to see him. Robert had come to meet him. John and William followed on and saw him buried. The family went on to Robert's and made one crop; your father returned immediately. The family made one crop and came back to Georgia. Sarah married in Kentucky a man by the name of Ira Nunn, and raised 13 children to be grown; only four living now. Aaron died at B--- L--- (torn); Jasper is dead, Aaron's wife is dead.
I am living in Newton County, Ga. I was born in 1803, the 24th day of October. You will see that I am in my 95th year. My health is good and I am on my farm that I settled in 1828. L.F. was born here on the 5th day of April, 1832. I am able to attend to my own business.
I have been married twice. My first marriage was the lst day of March, 1827; she lived 11 years and a few months. My second wife if she had lived two days and two months longer we would have been married 50 years. I have four children, Leonidas and Sarah by my first wife, and Mary and Louisiana by my second wife.
I have been in the Presbyterian Church 70 years. I expect to reach Heaven through the merits of Christ; He is the end of the lane for every one. I have two grandchildren with me, a son and a daughter, their father and mother died and I took them. I do not see how I could do without them.
I will close, well wishes; may we meet in another world with Christ, is the prayer of
Your Uncle
A. LIVINGSTON
P.S: You will have some difficulty in reading this but the infirmities of old age are visible."
[The addressee of this letter was Mrs. Laura Virginia Paulk Frazer, born Jan. 20, 1851, a daughter of Uriah Paulk (who died 1854) and Elizabeth Livingston Paulk born 1816, died Jan. 19,1864, and a grand-daughter of Adam and Elizabeth Livingston. Mrs. Elizabeth Livingston Paulk was a sister of the writer of the letter, and moved to Ala., soon after marriage.]

"Adam LIVINGSTON, a native of the north of Ireland, grandfather of L.F. LIVINGSTON, came to America in 1760. He bore arms in the struggle for independence, after which he removed first to Virginia and then to Georgia, settling in Greene County where his wife was killed by the Indians while getting water at the spring. In 1805 the old veteran started to Kentucky, but died at Cumberland Gap while in route. Thereupon the family returned to Greene, where a plantation was purchased and a permanent home established."
