Descendants of Stephen GREEN (172?-1802)

Notes

1. Stephen GREEN

Stephen Green was the son of Henry Green of Lunenberg County, Virginia.  Henry Green wrote his will 15 Oct 1748 (Lunenberg County, VA, Deed Book 1, p. 477) and named wife Elizabeth, eldest son John, second son Henry, third son Stephen, fourth son Frederick, youngest son Richard, daughter Dorcas.

If Stephen Green was old enough to be listed as an heir in 1748, he must have been born by 1727.  This is quite likely since his wife Jemima Scott was born in 1731.

There are some further links between Lunenberg County, VA, names and Rowan County, NC, names.  The names Frederick Green and Richard Green appeared in Rowan County, NC, land records at the same time as Stephen Green's name appeared.  The name Gardner Green appeared on a 1764 Lunenberg County, VA, tax list (along with John Green, Richard Green, Frederick Green, and Stephen Green), and then appeared in Rowan County, NC, in 1780 (Rowan County, NC, Land Entries #2439).  Henry Green's will was witnessed by an Edward Sizemore, and Stephen Green had land in Rowan County, NC, in 1778 which adjoined land owned by William Sizemore.

A Stephen Green enlisted in the military as a private in Virginia 14 May 1777 and then again 1 Jul 1779, but it is not known if this is Stephen Green of Lunenberg County.  A Stephen Green of Virginia received 100 acres of bounty land on 15 May 1799 (warrant #13153), but Stephen Green of Madison County, KY, was in North Carolina by 1778 and was in Kentucky by 1789.
