"Robert P. FORSYTHE was born in Pendleton County, Kentucky, March 8, 1818. He is the son of John and Isabella (Anderson) FORSYTHE, both natives of Pennsylvania. Mr. FORSYTHE obtained his education in the old log school-house, furnished with 'peg-leg' benches, the usual educational facilities of pioneer days. He came to Marion county in 1840, and on April 8, 1841, was married to Miss Caroline Turner, a native of this county, born in Miller township, July 8, 1825. She is the daughter of Rev. Charles and Susan (Lear) Turner, the former a native of Virginia, the latter of Bourbon county, Kentucky, born in 1806. Mr. FORSYTHE went to Shelby county in 1842, and remained until 1855, when he returned to Marion county. During this time, eight years altogether, he was sick and unable to plant or gather a crop. Mr. FORSYTHE has spent his life and energies in hard work on the farm. He now owns 226 acres of productive land, and has accumulated a competency for his declining years. He remained at home during the war, and fed both parties--'kept a free hotel' as he expresses it. He has two sons, Madison and Thomas P., and three daughters: Joan, now Mrs. Young; Ella C. and Fannie, all of whom are well situated in life. The two youngest daughters are yet at home. His children are all carefully and well educated. Mr. FORSYTHE is a practical farmer, and makes cattle raising a specialty. He is a prominent member of the Old School Baptist Church."
