Descendants of Michael CROWL (ca 1743-1807)
Notes
2.
John CROWL
Some Family Group Sheets mistakenly list two other children: William, born 16 Jan 1819; and Emanuel born 14 Mar 1823. However, these are not children of John & Catherine CROWL. In fact, they are not even CROWLs. They are William Sulevan, baptized 23 May 1819, Old Kreider's Church, Frederick Co, MD, son of Michael & Hannah Sulevan; and Emanuel Trein, baptized 19 Apr 123, Old Kreider's Church, Frederick Co MD, son of Samuel Trein. John and Catherine CROWL were merely the sponsors (godparents) for both of these children.

Michael CROWL
Michael CROWL and six of his seven sons lived near Minerva, Ohio. Current-day maps show Minerva located in Paris Township of Stark County and extending into Brown Township of Carroll County as well as into West Township of Columbiana County. Thus, it is often difficult to know for sure if a family event actually occurred in Stark County, Carroll County, or Columbiana County, Ohio.

George CROWL
Some of the information on this family came from Joan Gustafson (dnj at winco dot net).
CROWEL HISTORY: FOOTPRINTS IN THE SANDS OF TIME, by Henry Crowel, 1899, p. 13, says that the seven sons of George CROWL and Rebecca Myerly were George, William, Henry, John, Elias, Jesse, and Josiah. No evidence of a son named William has been found, but perhaps William and Israel were the same person.
It is also possible that William was erroneously listed because of a misidentification of George and Rebecca's son George. CROWEL HISTORY: FOOTPRINTS IN THE SANDS OF TIME, by Henry Crowel, 1899, pp. 13-14, states that George CROWL's son George married Sarah Ann Oliver in Cairo, Illinois, in October 1840. But this must refer to some other George CROWL, as George CROWL and Rebecca Myerly's son George was not born until 1829 and thus could not have married in 1840. This unidentified George CROWL (who married in 1840) reported that he remembered his Uncle William, who married Abbie, and died in Keokuk, IA. Hence, this could be an erroneous reason for the listing of William's name as a son of George CROWL and Rebecca Myerly.
