Pension issued 29 Apr 1833;
appeared 1 Oct 1832, Jacob BYRUM, a resident of Wake Co, age 71;
1777, volunteer substitute, 5 months, Cap. Gill, Col. Taylor about 13 m. after substitute, 3 months, Cap. Lewis, Col. Yancey
the 3 tour substitute, 2 months, 15 days, Cap. henderson
Resided in Bute Co, NC, when entered service
Born in Virginia, county unknown because of his being so young when he left that state and immigrated to what was then Bute, now Granville, Co, NC in 1777, father of Jacob, William BYRUM was drafted for 5 months,
"William BYRUM being a poor man and having a number of small children to support by his own labour and the said Jacob your applicant being the eldest of the said children proposed out of Parental affection and humanity to take the tower instead of his Father which he did and did serve the said Tower of five months under the following officers (to wit, Joseph Taylor, Col. William Pell, Capt. Pleasant Henderson, Lt. Breweington Jones)"
