Volume III:

Thomas JAMES, eldest son of John & Elizabeth, was born in Wales about 1690 and died in New Britain in April 1772.  He married 15 May 1722, Jane DAVIS who was baptized 19 Nov 1725.  They had four sons and two daughters, Thomas the eldest, Elizabeth the eldest daughter married Benjamin BUTLER, about 1746 and had one daughter Ann who married (first) Thomas Morris and (second) Moses Aaron. Benjamin BUTLER died about 1750.

George Smith of New Britain, yeoman, and Rebeckah his wife (being widow and administratrix of Simon BUTLER the younger, yeoman, deceased) to Abiah BUTLER (eldest son of Simon BUTLER), yeoman,
whereas Thomas JAMES of New Britain and Jane his wife by indentured dated 7 Aug 1736 granted to Simon BUTLER the elder, tract in New Britain, adj. Andrew Hamilton, Simon Matthews, containing 14 acres,
and Simon BUTLER the elder died without devising, whereby two thirds came to his eldest son Simon BUTLER the younger who died intestate, whereupon widow Rebecca preferred petition 13 Jun 1774, with debts larger than amount of estate,
order of court 12 Mar 1776 permitted her to sell,
and sale was 12 May 1776, sold to John JAMES who purchased the same for Abiah BUTLER as Abiah BUTLER had heretofore purchased same of his father Simon BUTLER the younger but never had a deed executed, he being the highest bidder for sum of 65 pounds,
now for 65 pounds this indenture

Andrew Hamilton, Simon Matthew, containing 14 acres, to Simon BUTLER Esquire (grandfather of parties hereto) who departed this life without making any devise, so that 2/3 descended to heirs of Simon BUTLER the younger deceased,
now for 17 pounds 2 shillings and 6 pence, this tract of 14 acres
