"Mrs. Myrtle SCHUNK, 54, 816 St. James street, died at Methodist hospital Thursday at 7:15 p.m. A daughter of Fred and Letitia Butler, she was born in Farmington, May 22, 1885. She was married in this city to Leo J. SCHUNK Dec. 13, 1907. She had lived here 11 years.
Surviving are three sons, Carl, member of the "Famous Five" Bradley college basketball team, and Paul and Frederick, all of this city; a daughter, Mrs. Gretchen Currie, Paxton; two brothers, Earl and Fred Butler, Farmington; a sister, Mrs. Iva Cramblett of this city; and three grandchildren.
Services, conducted by the Rev. George W. Chessman, will be held at the Wilton mortuary Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be in Oak Ridge cemetery, Farmington."

Obituary: PEORIA -- Verna F. Schunk, 82, of 5714 N. Western Ave. died at 12:15 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 1994, at Proctor Hospital.
Born Feb. 1, 1912, in Farmington to David A. and Rosie Mae Bradshaw Light, she married Paul S. Schunk on Sept. 19, 1931, in Peoria. He died April 23, 1984, in Peoria. One brother also preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Lonnie R. of Creve Coeur; one daughter, Mrs. J. Thomas (Bonnie) Higginbotham of Peoria; one sister, Zora Dillon of Kansas City,
Kan.; one half brother, Donald Light of Galesburg; three grandchildren; and one great- grandchild.
She worked at Fleming Potter for 20 years, where she retired from the press room.
She was a member of Christ Community Church in Peoria.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wilton Mortuary. The Rev. Mike Wiersema will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

John Frederick SCHUNK
John Frederick SCHUNK (presumably named for his two grandfathers) went by his middle name all of his life, most commonly as Fred, but he was also known by the nickname Fritz. During the 1920's, his family moved from Farmington, Illinois, to Peoria where he graduated from Peoria Central High School. Shortly before the birth of his first child during World War II, Fred was drafted into the Army. He served in the Quartermaster Corps and was stationed in India. He worked in the wholesale grocery business most of his adult life and was employed by Chris Hoerr & Son Company for several years after the war. From approximately 1951 to 1953, he owned and ran his own small grocery store in Peoria Heights, and then he returned to Chris Hoerr until his retirement about 25 years later. Fred was an avid sports fan all of his life, particularly for the Chicago Cubs baseball team. Fred and his second wife LaVerta lived in Peoria during the summer months and in the St. Petersburg-Clearwater, Florida, area in the winter months. Martha Elizabeth WHITEKER
Martha Elizabeth WHITEKER went by the nickname Betty, and her family moved from Kentucky to Peoria, Illinois, when she was about 2 years old. She graduated from Peoria Central High School in the same class (1932) as her husband; they dated about five years before being married. The Whiteker family had long been Methodists, but Betty transferred her membership to First Baptist Church in Peoria where Fred enjoyed playing basketball in the church gym. They were both life-long members there. Betty worked as a secretary until her son's birth and then never worked outside the home again. She believed strongly that being a mother and homemaker was a full-time job. She loved to play the piano, which she played mostly "by ear," and in later years she enjoyed playing the organ. Obituary: PEORIA -- Carl T. Schunk, 79, of 18005 E. 49th Terrace Court, Independence, Mo., formerly of Peoria, died at 2:46 p.m. Friday, April 18, 1997, at MCI Regional Hospital in Independence.
Born Sept. 20, 1917, in Farmington to Leo and Myrtle Butler Schunk, he married Marietta Hoag in 1941 in Peoria. She died in September 1985 in Cleveland. Two brothers also preceded him in death.
Surviving are three sons, Stephen M. of Independence, with whom he made his home, Joel A. of Chicago and Rob T. of Peoria; one sister, Gretchen Currie of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was a graduate of Bradley University, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.
He was a member of Bradley basketball "Famous Five" of the late 1930s, which had a 52-9 record over three seasons with two NIT appearances to earn the first nationwide basketball recognition for the school.
He also was a member of Bradley Hall of Fame, Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame and Bradley B Club.
He worked in trucking terminals in the transportation business, retiring in 1984.
He was a World War II Army veteran, serving as an officer.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Peoria.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cumerford-Endsley-Diggle Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. John H. Stanley will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery.
Richard S. Wilton, funeral director through Cumerford-Endsley-Diggle Funeral Home, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Bradley University or to Bradley Chiefs Club.
